Beach photography tips

Here is a few beach photography tips for those  lucky enough to be heading south for spring break.
     1)Try to shoot either early or late in the day.The midday sun is very harsh on the beach and makes it very difficult to get good exposure,so lay around the pool or beach until the sun drops low in the sky for portraits.I really love that late afternoon glow for portraits.
     2)Shooting on auto mode will usually underexpose because of the brightness of the sand and water.It freaks your meter out and gives a bad exposure.Swith to manual if possible and shoot a few frames to see what looks best.Set your aperture to f16 and adjust shutter speed to see what looks best.Bracket 4 or 5 shoots.
     3)Use your flash to add a little fill light to faces when the background is bright or if the the group is wearing hats.It also helps eliminate shadows under the eyes.
